Currently, we are facing a global environmental crisis that seriously threatens human survival. Although human life has become convenient through urbanization and industrialization, various phenomena that threaten the global ecosystem such as air pollution, destruction of the ozone layer, global warming, extreme weather, and depletion of various resources are occurring all over the world.
To cope with this, a holistic approach is required in all fields of society. As interest in environmental issues increases, the construction sector is striving to realize sustainable architecture that can minimize the burden on the environment when designing, constructing, operating, and dismantling buildings.
Architecture in the 21st century should be an eco-environmental architecture that takes into account nature-human interactions and ecosystems. The spread of eco-environmental architecture to realize sustainable architecture is an urgent architectural goal that humanity must pursue in the future. However, in order to realize eco-environmental architecture, a professional direction and specific method for how a building should be actually constructed has not been established yet.
Now, in order to realize eco-environmental architecture with the paradigm of the new millennium, above all, we need a shift in architectural thinking and a different approach from the previous architectural acts. To do this
First - It is necessary to develop and disseminate natural design techniques that can suppress the use of fossil energy and maximize the use of natural energy.
Second - From the initial stage of design, an integrated approach should be applied through cooperation of experts in related fields such as architecture, interior, landscape, city and environment.
Third-It is necessary to develop and apply design techniques through new environmental technologies,
Lastly, it is necessary to establish a foundation for a new architectural culture across related industries, such as production and construction technology of environmentally friendly materials that can minimize environmental load, and improvement of building regeneration.
In response to the demands of the times, scholars and experts from related fields gathered to establish the Korea Institute of Ecological Architecture and Environment, and intends to develop the following projects.
① Establish the ideology of eco-environmental architecture and seek practical plans to spread eco-environmental architecture.
② Establish a close cooperation system between industry, academia, research and government so that specialized technologies in the field of ecological and environmental architecture can be exchanged.
③ Systematizes various technical data through research and development and support for academics and technologies, and conducts various academic activities.
④ Establish a network with international academic organizations to promote international exchange and actively contribute to solving global environmental problems through policy development.
